PRK eye surgery
PRK is basically the same technique as LASEK eye surgery, although there are minor difference between the two procedures. In PRK epithelium is moved out of the way and the outermost layer below the epithelium is treated with a laser. In LASEK, epithelium is not removed, but instead an alcoholic solution is applied to weaken the epithelial cells, the opthalmologist then fold back the epithelial layer in order to apply the laser directly to the treatment zone, it is folded back to its original position after conreal reshaping has occurred. If this epithelial flap is not strong to be put back in its original position then it will be removed and the LASEK procedure has become a PRK operation.
