Cataract surgery

A cataract is defined as a clouding of the lens inside your eye, they usually develop over long periods of time causing degradation of eyesight. Untreated the condition may become so bad that normal vision is impossible. Cataracts are most common in the elderly with an estimated 50% of people over the age of 65 having some degree of cataract in one or both eyes.

The only surgical solution to cataracts is the total removal of these cloudy lens and replacement with a small plastic lens. Being such a common surgical procedure great advancements have been made in the operation over the yearsand the procedure now takes an average of 30 to 45 minutes with a 1 hour resting period afterwards. The operation is performed on an outpatient basis with many patients reporting a return to their usual daily routines in as little as 24 hours.
