Styes
What are Styes?
A stye is a benign inflammatory lesion of the lid. Styes are not harmful to vision, and they can occur at any age.
Causes of Styes
Styes develop when a gland at the edge of the eyelid becomes infected and they can grow on the inside or outside of the lid. Styes are caused by staphylococcal bacteria, which can commonly be found in the nose.
Treatments for Styes
Styes will usually heal naturally within a few days. This process can be encouraged by regular cleansing with hot compresses.
